ReLondon is a partnership between the Mayor of London and the City’s boroughs focussed on reducing waste and fostering a circular economy.
Its goal is to transform London into a global leader in sustainable practices by encouraging reuse, repair, recycling and better resource management.
ReLondon supports businesses, local governments and residents with initiatives to minimise environmental impacts while fostering innovation in waste management and sustainability.
ReLondon provides various grants and support to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) transition to circular business models.
Origin Tattoo London applied for the Beyond waste grant, and we are the first Tattoo Studio have been awarded the grant.
What are the grants?
High Streets Beyond Waste Grants – Funding and support for businesses to implement waste reduction strategies, such as reusing materials or adopting sustainable packaging. Examples include cafes introducing reusable cups or restaurants tracking and reducing food waste.
These programs aim to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and contribute to London’s green economy while supporting businesses hit hardest by the pandemic, such as hospitality and retail sectors.
What will Origin Tattoo do with the grant?
We at Origin looked at the ways we could become more environmentally aware. What changes we could put in place to ensure we are doing our best to reduce waste and make sure waste is disposed of responsibly.
We only use companies who promise to recycle waste and who can guarantee none of the waste is ever sent to a landfill.
We are reducing our plastic and looking for alternatives so we can eliminate this long term.
We have ditched the single use coffee pods to reduce our overall waste
We will be offering a refill service for our retail line and looking at changing the packaging to be able to offer glass and or aluminium packaging instead.
We realise the tattoo industry along with many other industries still has a long way to go. Biodegradable and or other environmentally friendly products usually come at a much higher cost which can be a barrier to switching over. The grant has helped us implement some changes and make us look at long term solutions to the ever growing waste issue businesses face.
