Tattoo Convention

What is a Tattoo convention?

A Tattoo convention is a celebration of tattoo culture which brings artists, collectors, vendors and entertainers together for a multi-day event.

Tattoo conventions happen worldwide but there are many U.K based Tattoo conventions as well.

Attending a convention can be good to keep on top of what is happening within the Tattoo industry. Trends and technology changes, so Artists need fresh and new inspiration. These events bring people together to share ideas and discuss what’s happening within the industry. They are also a great opportunity to network, learn new techniques or gain simple tips. They can help give a new artist direction or focus.

There is usually a diverse range of events going on at any one time.

One of the most exciting things to witness and indeed to challenge artists are the contests. There can be awards for all the different design categories. This is a great opportunity to see some of the finest talents in action – watching how they work under pressure and to a time limit.

Vendors may have promotions or  giveaways on offer which may include the likes of ink, needle and aftercare suppliers.

Vendors may be offering other items like piercing, jewellery, aftercare, T Shirts. artwork etc.

You can also see artist’s exhibitions, or maybe even a collaboration of artists’ work around a theme. For many artists it’s a great opportunity to meet and learn from other Artists and these exhibitions provide the best inspiration.

As you walk around the convention you will be able to witness some amazing artists tattooing live. There is the option to receive a tattoo as well but if you have a specific artist in mind contact them in advance to book a slot and obtain a quote.

Most Artists take bookings in advance so contact them via social media or their booking email giving as much information as possible. Knowing the placement, size in cm’s and style of design all help the Artist give you an accurate quote. If you are unsure of what you want it might be worth organising a consultation first to discuss any ideas you may have. If you are hoping for a large piece then it is a must to pre-book this in.

Some Artists may have walk in slots available this is where you can just turn up and ask for a tattoo at the convention, it is good to have exact idea of what you would like in mind. Some Artists may have flash designs available for you to pick from.

It worth bearing in mind that costs may differ from your local studio price, there are several reasons for this. Artists have to travel to the convention, bring their own equipment and rent space within the convention.

The conventions tend to be busy with a lot of noise happening all around, the artists are working and focussing on doing a tattoo so they may not have the chance or time to engage in a long conversation.

You may be attending the convention with a family/friends, as space is limited within the booth it is good idea for friends who are not being tattooed to remain on the convention floor and meet up again once your tattoo is complete.
