What does the term flash mean?
Flash is the term used for pre-made tattoo images.
The tattoo flash often comes in sets called flash sheets.
Why is it called a Flash?
The term “flash” is derived from the travelling carnival and circus trade in the late 1800’s. Tattoos artists working at those carnivals would hang up designs in front of their booths in order to catch the eye of passers-by, so they adopted “flash” as a term for this artwork.
Traveling tattoo artists developed sketchbooks of designs that were easy to transport and show to potential customers.
What is a Flash Day?
Studios and tattoo artists sometimes run a Flash Day, where you can just turn up and pick from a range of designs and pay a set price. This is usually on a first-come, first-served basis.
A flash sheet of tattoo designs is usually small in size, no adjustments are made to the tattoos they are exactly as shown on the sheet.
Why choose a flash design?
Flash, can be a great way for giving people ideas when they aren’t quite certain what they want. It also has the advantage of being something the artist has practiced, making it easier for them and less pricey for the customer.
Flash tattoos are a great choice for people who want to get the same ink style they’ve seen on other people or of a classic image.
Flash tattoos are smaller and simpler, with most generic styles being found in these types of designs. One of the main benefits of getting a flash tattoo is that they are quick, simple and less expensive than custom ones.
Where can I view flash designs?
Flash designs can be seen via social media; however, some artists may have printed books available to view when in the studio.
Flash or custom piece?
If you would like a custom piece but like something from a flash sheet, we can work off that design to create a custom design for you and it recommended to discuss this with a consultation first.
With a flash no consultation is required you choose the design and no adjustments or alterations are made, which usually makes the tattoo a quicker process.
